About us

Inclusion is not about lowering standards

Inclusive Taekwon-Do New Zealand — the Special Needs Taekwon-Do Federation of New Zealand Charitable Trust — is an active, registered charity with the New Zealand Charities Commission (CC54949). It is about creating the right support systems so individuals can meet them.

Who we are

No one excluded from the benefits of Taekwon-Do

Inclusive Taekwon-Do New Zealand (ITNZ) is a nationally aligned organisation dedicated to providing authentic Taekwon-Do opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities — including those with physical and intellectual disabilities. We operate under the principles of original Taekwon-Do while adapting delivery methods to suit individual needs in a structured and professional manner.

Our mission

To create genuine, structured Taekwon-Do pathways for individuals with disabilities — ensuring equal access to grading and progression, clear athlete development pathways, opportunities to compete and represent, international alignment, and recognition and dignity for all participants.

Our vision

To make New Zealand a leading nation in Inclusive Taekwon-Do development: establishing nationwide programmes, supporting schools and special education units, training instructors in inclusive delivery, building international partnerships, and hosting inclusive championships. Long-term sustainability, not short-term participation.

Our history

From grassroots school sessions to a national pathway

Inclusive Taekwon-Do in New Zealand began through practical grassroots work in schools, supporting students with disabilities within structured Taekwon-Do training. From weekly school-based sessions to nationally aligned development, the programme has grown into a recognised pathway that integrates students into mainstream environments where appropriate, provides dedicated inclusive sessions, creates competition opportunities both nationally and internationally, and connects with international Inclusive Taekwon-Do networks. What started as local initiative is now part of a broader international movement.

What makes us different

Many organisations talk about inclusion. We structure it.

We provide clear classification systems, defined competition rules, athlete support frameworks, instructor development pathways, technical standards aligned with international IITA frameworks, and transparent grading requirements. Our approach balances compassion with discipline.

We do not create "separate standards." We create structured adaptation with integrity. Inclusive Taekwon-Do is not charity — it is structured opportunity.

National & international alignment

Connected, consistent, recognised

Inclusive Taekwon-Do New Zealand works in direct connection with our parent global organisation, the International Inclusive Taekwon-Do Association (IITA) — active across 34 member countries — alongside national school and community networks. We maintain strong communication with international representatives to ensure consistency, professionalism and global recognition.
